Disney Shuts Down LucasArts

Quote:
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," LucasArts parent company LucasFilm said in a statement. "As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

Just seen it myself.

Basically, Disney wanted to focus everything on Episode 7 stuff AND want to do it under their name with just the Lucasarts license tag.

And 1313 and First Assault are cancelled too. Grrr, getting really disappointed with games at the minute. Was looking forward to the new C&C: Generals (Cancelled, turned to a pay-to-win MMO apparently), new Simcity (Went MMO style, always online, massive, massive problems) and now 1313 cancelled and I was looking forward to it.

Guess this also kills any hope of a new X-Wing game or a new single player KOTOR.

edit: Reading the wiki page, it seems 1313 'is' far enough in development that it could be picked up, finished and released by another studio. As for First Assault, I'd never even heard of it.

Apparently, the odds of 1313 being picked up are practically zero. It's a shame, as the person who provided that missed out on saying "3,720 to 1"

I am sad about 1313 being gone, but honestly it isn't surprising they cut the gaming component - the last few games have been pretty hard received, especially the Kinect game.

Especially the dancing mini games in the Kinect game...*shudder*

It is a shame, though - I need to go back and play/replay some of the older ones we have in the computer room.

Yeah, I was kinda looking forward to 1313...

As a bright spot in all this, Raven released the source code for JKII and Jedi Academy:
