Well, if a new trailer isn't enough to get people excited, I've no idea what is!!!

Clearly,
It is a sun-scorched barren lifeless wasteland.

If we consider the obvious aftermath of a near orbit space battle, resulting in mega tonnes of debris raining down upon the nearest gravity well, one could easily assume this is what is left of the forest moon of Endor and all the Ewoks died in the resultant global catastrophe.

If a Star Destroyer hit Tatooine it'd probably knock it out of orbit. Then it would either fall directly into the grav-well of it's namesake binary stars, or be moved outwards ironically resulting in a greatly improved climate.

If an ISD hits any planet, won't it do serious damage?!

Well it certainly doesn't do anything for property values in the immediate area, but consider that a Super Star Destroyer crashed into the 2nd Death Star (which was supposedly much larger than the 1st DS) and that did not cause an instant detonation of the whole space station, even though the SSD itself did go up in a fireball like some action hero movie car crash, so it stands to reason that a planet would survive, if not the population, but yeah it would definitely be a cataclysmic collision event.

Quote:
Director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy were on hand to unveil a new trailer that revealed characters storming through a sandy expanse similar to the home planet of both Anakin and Luke Skywalker.

“People thought it was Tatooine,” said Abrams. “It’s Jakku.”
