OK folks. Here's what I'm suggesting.

Firstly, I have messaged most people I can remember being fairly active 'recently' in the plot. And when I mean recently, I mean in the last few years. So, the list of people (hopefully!) reading this post is as follows:
Corran
Face
Mish
Tyria
Ran
Halley
Rillao
Gav
Dru
Shadow
Red
Zak
Voort

So, just a quick message to you all, if you're reading this... Hey! I've been very proud and privileged to have written with you all over the many years this plot has been going. I've asked that you read this post so that you're aware that the plot does still exist, at least in some form, and we'd like to try and get it back. At least to an extent. If this doesn't interest you now, then apologies for dragging you along. We're all older now, with lives (and loves) we didn't imagine when we were teenagers starting this thing, but I still love Star Wars, I still love writing, but most importantly, I love writing with you guys!

Now, we're all aware of how the plot has gone into remission somewhat (see above comment on us all having lives!), and there has been numerous attempts to jump start it, so what makes this different?

Well, nothing really, but to be honest, but it's worth a shot anyway.

Here is what I'm suggesting. We take 12 characters, stick them on a small(ish) ship, and go and have adventures. Let's not try and save the galaxy, let's topple a corrupt Imperial General. Let's not destroy Death Stars, let's infiltrate a space station.

Think small. There is a SW tabletop RPG game. Now, I'm certainly not suggesting we all sit and roll dice, but it has numerous ideas and designs for various types of campaign designed for small groups. Why not utilise the hard work someone else has done, and use that basis for a story. Take an adventure, break it down into a series of encounters or challenges, then settle back and enjoy the ryshcate.

Why 12 characters? Well, a squadron has always been 12, it splits nicely into groups of 2, 3, 4 or 6, and there at enough characters to make it interesting.

Who to bring along? Well, everyone who wants to write should have a character they like and want to write for. If we have any spaces left over, then I'd suggest existing characters who are pretty easy to write (like Rrowv or Void) and/or fill in skill gaps that are missing.

So, smaller stories, less extravagant plans. Traditional Star Wars action, intrigue and nicely evil and corrupt villains.

The question is, are you interested? I'm not asking for a life debt or any such nonsense, but if we restarted the plot (trying to match existing canon if possible) would you be interested in having a character, and writing when you can?

Answers (polite only!) below!

I am so totally and completely in!

I've been talking to my husband lately about how much I want to get back in to plotting, but needed to catch up, which was a daunting task!

So, yes, I am SO all for this! :D

I don't think Shadow is going to continue plotting at this time; her creative energies have been rerouted into her cake-making. There was also talk of her character kicking the bucket. I, on the other hand, would like to continue writing.

Remind me again if there was going to be any sort of continuity between adventures.
Second, are we using it to further the main plot or treating it as an "alternate universe" side-plot(s)?

Either way, I would like Gav and Brya to continue.

I'd be interested.
Give me a rough outline with a few immediate goals and I can get you a few pages.
Of course I'm still functioning outside the standard RSplot methods such as Skype and most other forms of human contact.

Gav, I believe we would be breaking continuity with the current plots and this would be "alternate universe" style.

As for it - I am in!

I think it would be beneficial to actually make attempts to schedule writing collaborations (aka - can folks meet on "day" at "time?") We might not get everyone, but it would probably be the silly, adult way to schedule this back into our lives a little bit.

I also like the idea of using the SW saga games for inspiration, but not heavily relying on the mechanics (Such as dice, etc).

I like your ideas, Face. I'm up for giving it a shot. If I don't end up contributing enough, I can take my character out of the picture if needed.

While Gavin is mostly correct, I do still have a desire to plot... just neither the time or energy or, or, or etc. This summer has practically killed me in a variety of ways. The few times I wanted to come back, the process involved in catching up (at least enough to know what's going on) and then figuring into whatever is going on involved just too much.

Now, the idea of smaller, compact is much more appealing. Granted, until wedding season is over, I'm frankly out of commission. There's just too much on my plate. But starting in October... well, that's another story.

Alternative Universe!?! Sweet!!! So from now on, the role of Piggy will be an eplieptic ninja played by a half Elf half Gungan with +10 Vorpla sword and Molinjor armor.

Screw my master's thesis. I'm in.

...when I'm not working on my master's thesis...

Great idea, Face. I would love to contribute when I have time. I anticipate my schedule to be slightly less chaotic this semester than usual so I think I could find time every so often to write a little something. :D

Nice Hales! Who will you be bringing to the party though? Halley or Drake?

Red had a nice suggestion, which I think deserves expanding. Actually scheduling in Plot Time.

I have two gaming groups a week… one on Wednesday evenings with a local group of people, one I run online on Tuesday evenings. Now, obviously, I can’t make every session, but I make nearly all of them. How? Simple, it’s all in my schedule! I have a full time job, a wife (with a full time job) and two kids… of course my life is planned in advance, that’s the only way we can cope!

Now, I’m not saying that we plan it every week, or we only plot in scheduled sessions… but what’s wrong with a “once a month” timeslot where as many of us as possible sit down for a good old fashioned Group Plot (tags and gats and all!)

I appreciate the best time for this would be a morning for the West Coasters, which would be an evening time for me, which means people plot at work… or it’s over a weekend. However, if it’s better for other people (and it’s not that often) I can drag myself out of bed early one morning to join in.

Discuss!

I'm going to say yes, with the same caveat as General Horn there. My responsibilities at work are up from a year ago, and I've more kids than previously, and apparently keep making social engagements, so I worry some that I'll say yes and then wind up not following through... but that's not my intention. ;) Most of the time I've got enough free cycles at work to join a plot from the office (during normal business hours, Pacific Time), but my evenings will be tough.

I'll be bringing Dru, naturally. ;)

Scheduling in plot time would actually be perfect, weekends would be best for me. I'm an early morning worker, and cannot plot at work, so that's out for me. So while I don't have tons of time, planning would help with that. I'm a planner anyway.

At least until late October/early November my schedule is fairly open in the mornings and the evenings so scheduling times to write doesn't sound crazy.

And if we go with an alternate universe kind of thing, definitely Halley :D And even if we don't...definitely Halley :P

Once or twice a month would be swanky - I would suggest Skype/Google Docs or a combo of the two as the medium (AIM is so Over). I am currently very open except evenings (Silly Rapier and Martial arts commitments) but I normally have a day or all of a weekend to spare at least twice a month. Having the work in GoogleDocs would also mean that anyone who misses the scheduled plot could eyeball it before it is posted and still contribute that way (if that seems like a good option). That or they get the job of editing and posting :P

Would we like to try and set up a first session in the near future? I know folks are still busy, but maybe get ourselves in the habit sooner than later?

I have personally been working to check the board more regularly, which I take as a step in the right direction!

One upside of AIM or Google chat is that I can use it at work. Skype, I cannot. I think GoogleDocs has Google Chat embedded in it now. Maybe that would work?

A session soonish sounds nice to me. I'm not 100% sure how busy I'll be next week, but the week after I think will be on the lighter side. All I know I can't do is Friday the 7th. :)

Firstly, are we talking weekdays? Meaning daytime for you, evening for me? If so, then Thurs is really the best day for me (as Cathy is out on alternate Thurs, and I'm pretty certain we can schedule it for those). If weekends, are we looking at Sat or Sun?

I've been re-reading the old plots (well, it beats actually doing work today), and I think one of the issues we had in the past was that groups would splinter off, and there'd be several plots running concurrent with each other. I think we'll need to try and keep that to a minimum. By all means, split up the characters, but they should always be working towards the same mission. No-one running off to do their own thing, unless it's a self contained plot that the author(s) can wrap up quickly. Make sense?

Next... who're the characters?

Well, according to various source books (and my own musings) there should be the following:

A demolitions expert who knows how to take out cannons and other targets.
A computer slicer who can crack into protected data cores faster than any droid
An expert at mimicry who can take on the mannerism of others for undercover ops
A sniper for long range backup and target elimination
An atmospheric and ground vehicle specialist capable of hotwiring and operating anything
A comm specialist, able to boost the teams signals, jam the enemies signals, and encrypt sensitive transmissions
A medic for when field missions don't go as planned
An intelligence and analysis expert, particularly useful during the planning stages of an operation
A stealth expert, who (unlike the mimic) can gain access to enemy installations through quiet subterfuge
A brawler and melee combatant able to handle and non-Human
A heavy weapons expert, able to provide significant firepower as and when required.

Now, let's look at the characters we're bringing along, with their primary, secondary, tertiary and other skills:

Face - Tactical Leadership, Superb mimic, melee combatant, short range blasters
Tyria - Medic, Ace Pilot, Jedi, stealth?
Corran - Leadership, Ace Pilot, Detective?
Dru - Leadership, Ace Pilot, engineer, slicer?, short range blasters, undercover
Gav - Pilot, short range blasters, vehicle specialist?
Brya - Pilot, short range blaster, melee combatant, vehicle specialist?
Shadow - Pilot, Stealth expert, medic, exotic weapons, chef(!)
    Red - Engineer, vehicle specialist?
    Halley - Ace Pilot, Slicer?
Piggy - Pilot, Intelligence and analysis expert.

I've probably missed some skills exhibited by our characters at some point, but I think I've got the gist.

Some things that blatantly stand out... We have no demolitions expert, no real slicer, no sniper... Uncertain if we have a character that is specialist in hotwiring vehicles etc. Some could, but we haven't really shown it yet. No comm specialist and no heavy weapons.

Here's what I'd suggest...

Dru has already stated he'd happily retcon his skills with less emphasis on the engineering, and more on the slicing.
Halley could take over the comm specialist role
Boost Tyria's stealth skills (like her original role in the books) so she has a substantial secondary skill
Increase Corrans detective skills to assist with the intel and analysis, as well as undercover
Pick Red, Brya or Gav, and make sure they have sufficient vehicle knowledge to act as the 'vehicle specialist'
Pick someone to be noticeably proficient at medium range blasters (i.e. blaster rifles) as so far, all of our group are pistoleers!

Also, to make up the 12 characters, I'm going to suggest Rrowv and Void. 1) They're easy to write for (furry, fun loving and slightly menacing to enemies) and 2) They fill the missing roles:

Rrowv covers both heavy weapons and demolitions
Void covers sniping, stealth and demolitions

Also, here's what I'd recommend to set up the plot:

We stick to the existing RS canon up until now. However, we retcon Gav to have been totally possessed by a sith lord when he did all his evil stuff. It's the only way Face would ever let him back on the Sacul! Also, we retcon any character issues and skills that we decide we need!

We've made contact with Organa-Solo, or Bel Iblis, or whoever, and the New Rebellion is in the process of being set up once more. Wedge takes over Rogue Squadron once more (at the request of whoever) and is running high profile attacks, almost like a recruitment drive. Because it's more political than practical, Wedge recommends that a small group is set up to take the fight to the Imperials by themselves, operating totally independent, and causing enough pain to the Imps to give the fledgling New Rebellion chance to flourish. This is agreed, and the group are selected, and sent off. The Rogues assigned take the moniker of Red Flight (as Wedge et al did in Starfighters of Adumar) after the original squadron that took out the Death Star. The Wraiths become Wraith Squad (not squadron), with those not assigned to the new unit (Kat, Kai, Keyta etc) all reassigned to other role.

We take the Sacul, 4 X-Wings, 4 Eta 2 Interceptors, 4 Belbullab-24 bombers, the Jubba Bird, Rrowv's "Shiny New Ride", all of which fit inside the newly designed Sacul. We also take all the weapons and small vehicles and armour that the Sacul carries. We also take 4 Firestorm (as we'll need the extra firepower) plus Zraix and the droids for tech backup/maintenance, and fly off to cause havoc.

This sound agreeable? Any suggestions to the skill balancing etc?

With regard to the timing of setting up group chats, evenings or weekends are best for me. I work M-F, 8a-5p, PST. I am available most evenings, except for Tuesdays and possible Mondays.

Scheduling gets complicated when you're working full time, your husband is a full time uni student and you also have several roles/responsibilities with your church. LOL

Also, for chatting, AIM works best for me. Skype is somewhat doable, but kind of a hassle for me at this juncture (my computer is a dinosaur).

If Wes decides not to join we could say he's been teaching Halley everything he knows about slicing if you want to boost those skills slightly. I think comm specialist would fall under that category as well. I'd have to do some research into all the terminology that goes along with that as I, in real life, know very little about computers :?

I will generally be working weekends from 12-8:30pm with sporadic shifts here and there of 8 to 5. Thursdays I think will work as it's one of the few days I don't have class or work usually. That's also my day to work on my thesis so far but I'll make it work :)

I agree with Face in our lacks in skill sets, and also with the plans to solve that with Rowv and Void (plus I like writing for both of those characters anyway). Red might be able to have some "surprise" tech skills as necessary if she can talk to whatever computer like she does with ships (does it work that way? I don't really know...).

As for our group plots obviously we all won't be able to manage the same schedule what with different time zones, work schedules, etc, so perhaps we might set up 2? That way if you can't make one, aim for the other, or something.

Also, if I could be emailed a copy of the newly outfitted Sacul plans, I'd be happy.

Face,
If it matters for timing. Hughes.net gives me pretty good connection speed between the hours of 2am to 6 am EST.

If we aren't swapping Dru out of engineering, he could definitely do vehicle specialist. His background of learning engineering from pirate mechanics fits with learning how to hotwire just about anything. ;)

I'd love to get back involved, but I'm afraid I just don't have the time any more to commit to regular posting. :(

I am still working on my solo efforts and I'll still be poking my head in from time to time. Hopefully things will change in the future and I can get involved properly again. *fingers crossed*

Well now that my life resembles something approaching normal, i'd like to get in on this if possible. I could fulfill the sniper role, as Theran prefers to use shall we say larger weapons than a pistol.

If Deven is prepared to be a heavy weapons expert...

We have a full squad, all PC's (theoretically at least) made up of 50% Rogues, 50% Wraiths.

Oh, and Shadow, do you honestly think the Sacul is anywhere near being a finished deckplan?!?

I like that skill set suggestion for Corran. I'm also thinking I'll have his abilities in the Force be at the level they were in the original X-wing novels. Corran relies on the Force for moral guidance but lacks pretty much any of the supernatural abilities. I find those too hard to write consistently. As for piloting, I wouldn't want that to be the primary focus of my character because I've never been good at writing space combat or enjoyed doing a lot of it. The undercover detective work intrigues me.

As for my schedule for group plotting, my work schedule varies, plotting at work isn't an option, and I'm often AFK on weekends, so I'll basically show up when I can if I get involved in plotting again.

I think I'm fuzzy on one thing, though. Are our 12 characters all in the same squadron? Rogue? Wraith? Or something else?

Cool. The only issue with Corran dropping his skills, is that it kinda throws out all of Tyria's training etc. Unless Tyr drops too, it means she's now the most powerful Jedi in the unit.

As for what we'd be... Rogue/Wraith etc, all that really means is callsigns, which will change depending on who's flying what.

Plus, I think it'd be more fun to use traditional Wraith callsigns, I.e.:

Poster Boy
Tree Girl
Math Boy
Grease Girl

No prizes for guessing who's who! ;)

Currently in the Plot, Corran's abilities in the Force are practically zilch after losing them a few Plots ago. I could keep that continuity and always bring his abilities back later if I want.

Yeah; Tyria is pretty much not being trained anymore, having become a full-on Jedi, and GH's dropping of abilities was already in the Plot, so we'd keep continuity, as he said, by leaving it as such. It hasn't really done anything to T at all.

I want in! Now that I'm back in PST instead of JST and actually seem to have quite a bit of free time (unfortunately do to lack of a job) I'd like to participate.

I know I have a lot to catch up on but I'd love to participate.

I'd need to create a character but I wouldn't mind being the Comm specialist.

Good to have you back, Rillao :-D Actually, with this new plotting style, I don't think you have to do any catching up before you can jump in.

Gavin's skill set works.
Brya's skill set could be tweaked: remove vehicle specialist and put in mimic.

As for Gav's evilness, he was under the influence of an ancient Sith lord from the time we invaded the imperial medical facility to when he was rehabilitated and brought back the first time (Zak and I never got around to writing the rehab part after the Gavin/Tyria fight though...). The "defection" to Shira could be explained in part by being under her influence as well, but was largely his idea as a failed attempt of a personal mission.

That works Gav. There only technically needs to be one "mimic" specialist. But undercover stuff is always good. Although Face can make a convincing female... it takes too long! ;)

Also Ril, let me know if you want/need help with the character creation!

Did it ever get nailed down if we're making new characters, or if we're picking up from our own Plot Canon, or...?

Using our existing plot characters, and continuing the story so far, sticking to the existing canon (unless we want to bend stuff).

Only issue is... Ril doesn't have an existing plot character!

OK. It's up. Can people let me know their email address with which to share? I don't have them all saved on my iPhone!

*edit* I've grabbed a load from previous shared Docs. Let me know if you want in, and can't see it/access it.

We'll just say that the mission didn't bring any more operatives. Mardex and Khab can just go their separate ways. We can always bring in old characters at a later time if we fancy some changes.

Heh, yeah - I tend to write out the thoughts and then go back and adjust grammar/tenses in an edit read. :) Hope you don't mind! It was passive tense (which is Baaaaaad in many ways).

How do I access the google doc?

It may have something to do with the fact that I have two E-mail addresses associated with google docs....I can log in under kellchecker1025@gmail.com. Don't know if that makes a difference?

I've started plotting!

Hopefully it can go to the Google Doc within the next day or so!

OMG, I can't even tell you how EXCITED I am to start writing again! I plotted at lunch, after work while waiting for my husband to come pick me up, and then a bit as soon as I got home. Falling right back into it!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is so weird and cool to be writing again.

I think the weirdest thing is is that it's coming so naturally and I'm able to jump right into it, but at the same time, I am having to get to know the characters again, even Tyria. But it's like riding a bike, hehe.

So I posted a little snippet, but I'm still not 100% sure how this works. Are we posting in GoogleDocs now instead of on the board? I'm assuming the Doc will eventually get posted here... And there's no discussion/response section like the rest. Do we need one?

I think we're all going to work on the GoogleDoc, and then post when the first "story" is complete. I guess we'll be providing responses either directly in the plot, or here.

So, just to say, it is AWESOME to read a ShadowPlot again! :)

A Tyria plot is posted! Ridiculously, I was terrified posting it. LOL

Anyway, wanted to fill in some of the missing pieces, and in so doing, pave the way for the new, "grown-up" Tyria. I'm tired of writing her being such a selfish baby all the time. So there. LOL

I, for one, am loving the new mature Tyr! :)

Only one change which could be made... change Face training her to Shadow training her. Face is sneaky, Shadow is... well, a shadow. Other than that, really liking the husband/wife interchange. You're making them a very realistic coup

Re: Google Docs - we use the doc to compose our plot and then post it on the board after edits or in sections if it is large enough. It is an easy way to do group plots, where as individual plots once we get going can just come straight to the board. :)

Once it is started, we can have a reply thread again.

So should I start a new topic then, or...? As in, New Plot 1 and Responses & Discussion of New Plot 1?

I was wondering that too, GH, but since some main Plot things are being changed, I'm not sure.

I'm still kinda hazy as to why some things are being changed, actually.

LOL, either way, I'm glad to be writing again!

Great stuff there, Halley! :-D

Just like the good ol' days, I check the board frequently once again, and now also the Google Doc.

Now all we need is an epic from GH and it'll be just like old times!

Nope. Mish hasn't expressed an interest, so thought we'd keep Kai out of the character list. We can always bring her back if we miss her, or Mish come back.

So, is it 18, or...? I kinda feel like since some history is being rewritten/disregarded, it shouldn't necessarily be 18. Flexible on that, but there are my two cents. Again, too, not sure why the past us being changed. LOL

Should probably include something about Kai being either reassigned, or severely injured and in a coma on the Rebel Dream, or some such thing.

I think that since only a little bit has been retconned, we should keep it as 18. And yes, we can put something in about Kai... But we haven't for Keyta, or Kat, or RDM or Moor...

Does anyone have any objection to having Gavin's reintroduction being the last segment of the googledoc post?
As it sits right now, the first half of my post is ready and the second half will be ready when Face has a bit of free time.

Nice writing folks! I've just caught up with Halley and Face's plots.

Tyr, we need to schedule a time to write a stealth training scene at some point. After Christmas. Sunday may be our best bet since it's the only day we're both off, or Monday night would work.

So - "The Briefing" group GoogleDoc has now become the continuous workplace for Plot 18 group work, since it can be renamed and everyone has access to it.

Feel free to use it as needed to work with people on the Plot 18 mission :)
