In my last mission storyline I hinted at coming events that are basically now featured in this new storyline.

Set ten years after The Last Mission and twenty-two years after the current RS plotline, I'm hoping to create a much darker storyline in this one.

The Last Mission took something like a year from start to finish. Hopefully updates should be more regular this time around, basically things should work like this.

The Darkest Days: updated when I write a part.
RS plot: When i think of AND write a story.
Rogue Mechwarrior: When I can be bothered. :P

So there you go.

Enjoy.

That had to be one of the coolest things to wake up and read, Deven!

I'm excited to see how this goes, your flair for the dramatic is wonderful. Already anticipating the next part!

Just managed to read the first few parts. (Thank goodness for night shifts!)

Fantastic stuff their Deven! I have to admit, I did a little "Yey" when I saw Face in there! I was almost tempted to email you and ask for Face's offspring (as yet undecided who) to be in it, but that opens WAY too many doors!

Keep it up pal, it's always enjoyable to read!

Hee hee

Thanks, I'm currently writing another part.

Tell the truth I thought that last part was a bit weak. But it moves the story along so thats alright.

Jolly good, chap! You have a wonderful storytelling ability and a great knowledge of the SW universe. I really like the inclusion of old characters, especially Pellaeon and Farlander. I also like reading stories about younger, less experienced pilots making their mark.

Looking forward to more (and I need to finish reading The Final Mission).

New part posted.

Would have been done sooner, but my Grandad passed away recently and I've been lacking the motivation to do stuff.

But it's done now and I've got a few ideas bouncing around. I've also laid the groundwork for a couple of suprise twists.

Problem is I'm not quite sure what those twists are going to be.

Anywhoo, enjoy.

Quite a drama you have going on there. And so much action, it's great. I love how you take so many different storylines and intertwine them, jumping from one to the next so it never gets boring. You do individual characters well too. And it's cool how you explain the history of the Society and other forces that rule the galaxy. I enjoy doing that myself, and thanks for mentioning the Noz and Progressive League. While I haven't done much lately with the League, I've always liked the Noz ever since we created them back in Plot 2. They're almost as old as the Plot itself, and originated from the Adirondack research facility in Plot 1.

Keep it up! I can see lots more excellent stories on the horizon. Hehe, and bring some of this into the Plot too if you can.

Wow, I must say - I am hooked on this! Its really a cool transition to see an evolution of the squadron, its new members and glimpses at where the vets have ended up. Plus the writing is top-quality.

Expect big things in future parts.

This one almost made me late for work, I just had to get it fininshed before I went.

Hopefully future parts should progress a little faster.

Having said that, this part actually ends book one. Book two will be along shortly and may or may not (Haven't decided yet) skip forward one month.

Watch this space

Awesome! I read it in parts, so it took me a while, but it was a great read. Very much like reading a novel with its length, number of characters, intertwining storylines, and solid use of canon characters. Also cool to learn a little about pre-Old Republic history. While you may not consider this entirely related to the Plot, I think it makes a great post-Plot, and I'd consider it Plot canon.

Looking forward to more.

New part posted and it topped close to thirty two pages. The board doesn't handle something that big so i had to split it.

Hands up who can spot the easter egg from a Sci Fi show. :D

I need to get this thing back on track.

New part posted.

I'm thinking about maybe doing a trilogy. The Final Mission was the first one, The Darkest Days the second one and an as yet unnamed storyline the third.

but thats all in the future. I've got to finish this one first.

Reading this second book bit by bit, but AWESOME so far! You're a great starfighter battle writer, excellent depicter of Rogue Squadron, and I like Jenna's views on Jedi. We need you in the Plot too :D :D :D

Upcoming events for the next part/book (which evers easier)

The Battles Of Balmorra and Hapes.
The debut of a unique wing of fighter pilots.
The return of Halley and possibly someone else.
The Society/Neo-Seps rollout their newest weapons.
Jenna recieves a visitation from someone long since dead.
The Society plan progresses.
A new chief-of-state is elected for the Republic. An event that could be disastrous.
A brutal death occurs.

Stay tuned. Or watching or reading or something.

Look. Just pay attention okay?

New part and book posted.

Some interesting facts about this one.
MAC cannons are based on those from the Halo novels.

Alex Winger was an EU character created by author Charlene Newcomb and feature in anumber of stories from the Star Wars Adventure Journal series (Which was eventually cancelled). She did however recieve a brief mention in vision Of the Future.

I'm also trying to see just how many EU characters i can use in a useful way.

Quick quiz. The names of three characters featured in this and the final story of book two are in fact borrowed from the DC comics series. Can anyone tell me who they were and what they all had in common?

I've worked out that Carter Hall is Hawkman, but I don't know who the others are. I'm assuming it's the similar link?

Good stuff by the way!

Amazing writing - as usual!

I think Red would cry to see the Sacul all decked out like she is now, happiness. Kinda amusing she's from Tatooine and they're returning there - even if she is absent from the action.

But the action is amazing in the story, you really know how to hook readers!!!

Only halfway through Book Two so far (I read slow, savor). But from what I've read so far, I dub thee stories to be SW novels. They're novels in length, complexity, amount of characters, number of interconnected stories, faithfullness to both the SW and RS Plot canon, and in sheer goodness.

Keep it up. And, yes, I will read them all...even if it takes me a while. Great stuff.

*crickets chipring instead - cue staring, speechless Red*

A. Absolutely amazing writing with everything as usual - the Jedi and battles are something you REALLY write well! Plus the Wraiths, all of it!

B. I am utterly speechless...you made Red SO cool!!!! omg...you have no idea how in awe I am of my character's future self. You really get the personalities of the various memebers well!

:P

And more excellence! Your ability to age and predict our characters blows me away - I thought the reference to Octavia's distaste for inquiry boards was beautiful and spot on, considering that she had her own bad experience in her Wraith days with such things.

The evolving Rogue situations are also coming on so well! The evolution of both situations were stunningly detailed and I know you must put a ton of work into these chapters!

Kudos! :D

on book three and I'm still loving it. I like Krey'fey's ambition, subverting the rule of the senate and commandeering half the fleet with him...its not an uncommon development in star wars for the military heroes to step in and pull a Caesar when they think its right. I like seeing how LFL's authors justify it and I look forward to seeing how it turns out :)

My condolences for the loss of your hdd :(

I just recently found out that my brother formatted my 200gig mp3 drive to make room for porn.

AND I had to format my ipod a while ago so I dropped all 40 gigs onto my friends hdd for a while. I bring an external drive over to get it back and find out that the 40 gig folder has magically shrunk to 2 gigs. Where'd the other 38 go? who knows. :(

Ouch!

Anyways, after a slight delay, I should have the next part posted wednesday.
I'm struggling with the current part because I've already written it once and I'm struggling to be enthusuastic about writing the same stuff over again. Hopefully once I've got past the current segment, things should pick up.

New part finally posted. Not much, but it fulfills my vow to have one posted today.

Basically just a rewrite of what was lost when my HD went kablooey. Hopefully things should pick up in the way of updates.
I'll try and have the next part by Monday.

Yay! A fix!

Sorry to hear about the HD - I know how frustrating it is to rewrite something you've already worked on. Never quite feel the second works as well.

But with the Jedi goodness! I love the tension you built up for the Jedi conflict with the advancing armed forces - such a cliffhanger! The Kushiban tie with Jubba Birds for my favorite Star Wars critter at the moment - much more intelligent, obviously. Kinda like an Angora rabbit that started profiting from itself than letting others profit from it, heh.

As for Jenna, I loved the interplay with her actions and the squadron - the ability of a leader to balance rules and needs is tough and I think you hit it point on.

Wonderful as always!

Woohoo! Finally finished reading Book Two! Sorry it took so long, but you're even more long-winded in writing than I am. I'll get Book Three read more quickly.

Anyway, incredible read! The complexity is that of several SW novels packed into one, yet I was still able to keep up with what was going on. The characters are awesome, especially cameos of Corran and the Wraiths. You got them down perfectly.

Admidst all this praise, though, one small criticism. I noticed a sizeable amount of typos throughout the whole book, most of which could be caught with a careful second read. It'd help give this great writing just a bit more polish.

Looking forward to reading more.

I know what you mean about the typos. I always spell check every so often during writing and again after finishing each part. But some things seem to slip through. I also read through two or three times before posting, but again I miss a couple.

Also due to recent computer trouble I'm running on a very basic version of windows that lacks microsoft word, so I'm using wordpad, which doesn't have spellcheck and instead using an online checker.

Once I get the next part posted (Sometime in the next two or three days) I'll read through and chase down those pesky mistakes.

Now you won't know this but just before I clicked the submit button, I realised I'd put done instead of down.

After reading first story of Book Three...

Very epic writing, Deven! Monumental battle sequence unseen since the massive fleet clashes of the Black Fleet Crisis (one of the few aspects of that trilogy I actually liked). Great infusion of classic Plot characters too. I love how these books work as a distant future of the RS Plot. It's cool to see where Corran is now, more involved with the Jedi cause and still battling to save the galaxy. And apparently he and Luke have resolved some of their differences that drove Corran away from Luke's academy in the first place.

Excellent stuff! Have finally managed to find time to read it! Of course, the lack of Wraithage takes it down to a 9.5... but still, and admirable score!

Do not fear. Book Three will end on an extensive Corran/Face/Wraiths plot. :D

I'd feel embarassed sharing it with so many people.

Besides, since many characters such as Corran and Face are based on their RS counterparts, things might get confusing. But it's worth thinking about.

In the meantime I'm working on the next part and I'm planning on reintroducing another character from the plot who isn't a member of Rogue or Wraith squadrons, but was created by a member of this board.

Lets play a game.

Whoever can guess who the character will be gets a cookie or a cookie derivative.

Ack. You're writing too fast, and I'm reading too slow. Still in Book Three, but really enjoying all the history you're giving about how Tatooine used to be. Did you come up with all that yourself, or did you develop it from other SW literature?

Developed most of it as a mixture of the info available on Wookiepedia and stuff I made up.
Information regarding ancient terrain, the Kumumgah and the bombardment which changed it all are from the wookiepedoa page on Tatooine.

Everything else, ancient location names, axis shift, great library were all my own creation.

With anything in Star Wars, there are lots of areas were information is thin and open ended. I just took what was already there and built on it.

Can be tricky to remeber stuff that you've already written though.

Well, I caught up on the plot, and read The Final Mission...perhaps I should catch up on this too. I did notice Halley's name in there a number of times, and the response is tremendous...

Yes...catch up on this I will...

It looks way more interesting than the Legacy of the Force series that's out now...of which I have 2 of them by Allston that I still have yet to read...

But this first..because it looks fantastic :D

*Head pops from so much swelling of the ego*

Actually the Legacy Of the Force series is kind of up and down. Some bits are great, some are bad and some are just 'meh'

The chapter I'm at in Sacrifice actually revolves around somebody ordering supplies. Oh man.

Well, I'm only half way through the first book...but I have to say it's amazing so far.

And, I loved how you slipped in Kasan Moor...VERY nice touch. This was such a fantastic thing to read just after getting off of work. You have me hooked. :D

I've always felt Kasen Moor got the wrong end of a sour deal. After all, a couple of missions in the Rogue Squadron game were just reworkings of missions from the Rogue Squadron comics and X-wing novels.

Kasen was simply the games version of Baron Fel and the 121st were another version of the 181st. So following the game, she never received further coverage since she was merely a female Fel.

Like Dash Rendar, Ace Azzameen, Wade Vox and Rookie One, Kasen has passed into the Star Wars Video Game Character Graveyard.
Though Dash featured in the follow up book to Shadows of the Empire, he has since warrented only a brief mention alongside Guri in a Short Story set during the NJO. Basically, He keeps claiming he's not quite dead yet, even as they try to bury him.

So I figured I'd give Kasen a fresh chance, a new lease of life and all that.

Working on the next part, which will end Book four.

The final part of Stormbringer covers a one month period and revolves completely around Face, Corran and the Wraiths on Tatooine.

*Expects Face to be pleased*

Hee, its such an ego boost that you use Red in your writting. And AWESOME as usual! I am getting real excited about this artifact and all the issues that seem to be creeping to a head - also can't wait to see the Wraiths more!

:D More, we want more!

*Jaw drop*

Dude, those on the retreat are going to Squeal when they read this!!!!

AWESOME PLOT! ^_^

I got a total geek fix from the descriptions of the Sacul at work and then a total action fix from that fight sequence!

You continue to outdo your writing, the previous installments were amazing and this is like more icing on a cake of gooey icing goodness.

(PS - Can you tell I liked it?)

Still working on catching up <pant> <pant> Over half way through Book Three now.

Congrats on your starship command, Red! :D That ship you're flying has some similarities to an idea that's in the works.

As always, superb writing, Deven.

*Squeee!!!*

^_^ Deven, my ego is throughly buffed and I LOVED the lines and banter between Deven and Red!

The Lola joke was amazing, especially...

Such a shame about Sarah and Rikard...I can't wait to see if they can recover from loosing those info sources.

We want more, we want more!

Short post this time. Would have been longer, but I've ben really ill lately and in three days I wrote the last two lines. Fortunately, I'd written enough by the beginning of the week that i can at least post something.

I'm better now, so I should be able to get more done, there are some events I planning to occur that I really want to get to and write.

But first I'm going to actually write something for the main RS plot. :D

Here we go, another long, double post part.

I hope to wrap up the Coralis situation in the next part as well as begin the big battle that i've been working towards.

I think i'm about halfway through the main story.

I had to do a double take at the whole...Thrawn! thing. Man, you really got some good surprises in there, and I can tell there are more to come

(PS - you also make me overly proud and giddy for how you've just captured Octavia!)

Hey Dev, just finished reading all of Part 1 of Darkest Days and even though it took me all evening and my dog is basically climbing on me because I've neglected to brush him yet tonight, I LOVED IT! So flow-y and well-written an obviously thought out. I especially liked your Paelleon and, oh yes, KAI! Woo!!!

Will try and read more later. El Jetto calls...

Aaaaand I've just finished reading the second book. Superb stuff in here! I really liked it all! You really know how to round out your characters and give them believeable flaws etc; I like Jenna, she's shaping up to be great!

Also I'm loving how you're adapting the lesser known SW stuff to your own plotty devices; I'm a fan of Knight of the Old Republic, so I'm loving all the star forgey type references especially, looks like that's going to be really important!

I like the moments that you have in between action sequences, too, with Trinity and the kids, and how towards the end of this second book the psyche of Sara is explored a bit more!

Your Han also seems just so perfectly cannonical to me, too. Brilliant writing, you've got him down pat. I especially liked the Vykk Drago/Bria refs, very nice, love that trilogy!

And lastly, I'm superpleased that Kai continues to be included in your epic! I think you have her game demeanour down pat too: I especially loved this description: "Ground floor, Rakatan ruins, ancient droids and Star Maps" Kai quipped as she swung open the safety gate and stepped from the platform. It's perfectly Kai! Yey!

Just got started on Book Four, and great introduction for Locker! True to form, no Rogue or Wraith can step into a bar without a least one punch thrown. Though, usually, we end up leaving the place riddled with blaster holes and bodies. Completely unintentionally, of course.

Aaaaand just read number 3. I'm totally loving it, especially what's happening to Jenna in this episode, excited to see where you take it. (And I'm hoping there's another Wraith story in no.4!) I also was overjoyed to see Red's appearance, very nice indeed!

Ha ha, if I carry on reading at my current speed, I could be on the same page as Cran soon!!

And that's no 4 done. I was going to comment more but mainly my overriding concern is for Kai's skin. Aaargh, I have to go to bed but I need to know what happens! More for me to read tomorrow I guess...!

Next part coming up in the next few days. And I'm going to start dropping hints about the identity of the leader of the Society Council.

Soon as i find a good candidate. I've purposely left his identity undecided so far so I can picked from a list of candidates that more than one person will recognise.

Edit: Oops, scratch that. I've just remembered I've already started laying the groundwork for his identity. (Slaps forehead) D'oh!

Wow! You're right, some dark stuff there!

I have some ideas... but I'm really quite reluctant to mention them at this stage, as it involved what's happening in the 'current' plot. Really must get to the Final Battle quickl
y!

Wowie...at least Red lives? That was dark, but appropriately so.

And as Face said, I have some ideas, but I also suspect you will have some twists for us, too.

Feel free to put forwards any ideas.

I'm not some obsessive author type that refuses to listen to others.

Well, maybe i'm a little obsessive, but i will listen.

But you are right about twists and if you think this is dark, stay tuned for future parts.

Can't believe I missed this. The one year anniversary of The Darkest Days was back in may.

Working on the next part which will wrap current events up ready for the big battle which will end book five.

Of course, it goes without saying that a whole new bunch of questions will be created.

Judging from my notes, I'm looking at about eight to ten books this time. Five down so far (Nearly).

Um, yeah a whole bunch of questions were created...but hooray!

I love the start of engagements - your ability to keep so many running lines clear enough to follow impresses me. And the Lyrics at the end were especially fitting.
