So I haven't been in to work an hour yet...

"Tech Center Help Desk, this is James."
"Hi, we're driving up this weekend for the University's Parent/Student orientation..."
"mmhm..."
"And I was wondering if you could suggest any hotels in the area."
*twitch* "Ummm... I think there's one or two around here. Let me look them up for you."
"Thank you."
"One moment." *puts person on hold and bangs head on desk*

------------------------

"Tech Center Help Desk, this is James."
"Hi, I need a password reset for my MyCSUCI."
"Sure, one moment while I transfer you."
*pushes button* *pauses*
"...... Omar... when the woman calls back, she needs a password reset."
"Accidently hit End Call instead of Hold?"
"Yup..."

That was an interesting call while I was eating chinese. And as for knowing Jim's name... I'm the only one who calls him Jim with the response of "damn it Jim, I'm a doctor not a thermo-nuclear physicist."

Hehe, it took me a moment to figure out who James was too. I've always know Bowman as Jim since I met him at camp. Or by other names...

For one of the greatest collections of bang-your-head-on-the-desk-worthy tech support calls, http://www.rinkworks.com/stupid/

Oh boy...

"ITS Helpdesk, Student Worker Heather Jones, How may I assist you?"

"Um, hi...My daughter is going to be a freshman at Trinity next year..."

"Mhmm?"

"I just wanted to know if linens were provided, because I saw linen closet when I was visiting the dorms?"

"Um...no, ma'am. The school does not provided bed linens..."

"And soap? Are the bathrooms fully stocked?"

"No...ma'am...we get toilet paper and they clean once every two weeks..."

"Do they have group runs to Whole Foods?"

"Ma'am...most of our students have cars or have friends who will drive them, we also have a few VIA bus stops on campus..."

"Oh, oh okay - thanks..*click*"

"....Ma'am...this is the computer helpdesk."

Kim - "Hey James, I've got a call here - has a question about an MP3 player."
Me - qua? "Um... ok." *picks up phone* "Yes, you have a question about an MP3 player?"
Person - "Yes, I bought an MP3 player so I can transfer my papers between home and school..."
Me - Sir, you're an idiot. "Um... ok."
Person - "And I want to know if it's compatable with the computers there so I can hook this thing up."
Me - "Well, what MP3 player do you have?" Say 'iPod' and I'll hang up on you.
Person - "Creative Zen Touch."
Me - You're redeemed. "Alright, lemme look it up really quick and check the specs." *pause* "Ok, it looks like you have to install software in order to transfer file around... unfortunately, software is not allowed to be installed on any of the school computers without it being reviewed by the techs to make sure it's not going to compromise the school's systems."
Person - "How long does that take?"
Me - "For faculty, 2-4 weeks. Students, unless it's from a teacher, ain't happenin."
Person - "WHAT?? Aw man... I guess I'm going to have to take this back then, huh?"
Me - Sir, you ARE an idiot. "Or you could just keep it and use it as an MP3 player. Might I suggest going to Target or even our Student Store and get a USB Flash drive; they're a much cheaper and compatable with all the computers on campus."
Person - "But I've heard they're really unreliable and their memory can get screwed up really easily."
Me - they liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiied to you... "No easier then an MP3 player."
Person - "Oh... um... ok, thanks." *click*
Me - *hangs up* "MORON!!!!!!!"

So yeah... apparently having a simple 256MB Flash Drive isn't good enough for some people...

Ya, and when you leave it in your pocket and it goes through the laundry. How can you risk that?

And what about accidental swallowing?

*Maning the I.T. table at freshman orientation*

A Mother: Hi, I have a question.
Me: *dashing grin* I just might have an answer for you.
A Mother: We have T-Moble, how's the service out here?
Me: I AM NOT WITH THE PHONE COMPANY! AWAY WITH YOUR NON-COMPUTER QUESTIONS!!! Decent. The main services around here are Verizon and Cingular, but most others have pretty decent signal.

---------------------------------------

Boss: Tomorrow we have another round of freshman registration, so all the labs are going to be full.
Me: Noooo... not again! Oh, I plan on being sick tomorrow... so I-
Boss: Oh no you don't!

Person: Hey I was wondering if you guys could turn the AC in the open-lab down a bit 'cause it's *BEEP*-ing cold in there.

Me: Oh, no, sorry we can't. We--

Person: *walks away* Holy *BEEP*... you *BEEP*-ing care more about the machines then you do people...

Me: --can't because the themostats in the room don't work and we don't know where the main one is...
